ABOUT: What We Do

Our Menu

At inception, this was primarily bread. As our facilities and donor base has grown, our distributions include all foods, raw and prepared.

Our Operations

Our drivers travel to pick up points in branded delivery vehicles where they quantify, document and pick up products at the donors' convenience.

We then transport directly to the approved destination where storage and refrigeration capacity for allocated quantities will have been pre-assessed. All items are again quantified and signed for by beneficiaries.

Drop off immediately follows pick-up wherever possible. If perishables are unavoidably retained overnight, these are signed into stock at our chilled and frozen facilities at our offices, for next day delivery. Liability disclaimers for both donors and FreeFood are signed by beneficiaries.

Our Service

On the donor side, we serve a range of manufacturers, retailers and kitchens who have a need to dispose of items either in surplus or reaching their expiry date and and need of urgent consumption.

We are delighted to be able to offer a professional service that patently addresses risks and protects their interests while achieving corporate social investment benefit in the community.

Our preferred channels of distribution are pre-established schemes or organisations who are providing sustainable development or services to the needy and vulnerable. These are broadly involved with education, health and shelter. By exception we do also meet legitimate needs in unstructured situations or ad hoc events for humanitarian benefit.

Our Funding

FreeFood has historically been funded by individuals.

With the credibility developed, critical mass attained and scope for growth foreseen, we are looking to both expand our individuals base but also for corporate sponsorship/s to leverage the value added to the community.

FreeFood is a SARS approved PBO and cash donations are tax deductible.
